The Swiss SFS Group is a developer, producer and distributor of precision parts, system components for the construction industry, and fastening and door-closing systems. The company‘s global distribution network achieved a turnover of one billion Swiss francs (630 million euros) last year. SFS production facilities are found in 14 countries across Europe and North America. The company employs some 4,000 people worldwide.
To unify their overall system architecture and to safeguard the best possible information distribution to its employees, SFS services AG, part of the Swiss SFS Group, decided to integrate their extensive Domino databases into their existing SAP portal.
With the MENTOR (Repository Manager) for Lotus Domino developed by CONET, SFS found the perfect solution for this ambitious undertaking.
The Situation
An SAP portal forming an intranet is the central information platform for the employees at SFS.
The extensive Domino data volumes in which more than 60,000 documents are stored in more than 55 databases were not part of the existing system.
To be able to access, for example, necessary checklists and test specifications for quality management, employees had to work in several different systems simultaneously.
The Solution
The new solution was implemented by CONET‘s integration specialists in close cooperation with the future users directly on the existing SFS system. During a two-day workshop, the SFS IT staff were familiarized with the system‘s logic and shown some useful tricks in connecting SAP and Lotus Domino. After a joint integration of three exemplary databases, the SFS employees could deal with the rest of the data volumes completely on their own.
The Benefit
Knowledge management services like favorites or ratings personalize queries and make working processes transparent and comprehensible. Additionally, they significantly ease finding oft-needed information.
The additional 60,000 documents now available have increased user satisfaction and motivation considerably.
The sustainable state-of-the-art infrastructure and low installation and administration costs minimize TCO.
